European cars more likely to fail than Japanese-made vehicles

  Tuesday, 16 August 2011

A study of 50,000 cars has revealed European-made cars are more likely to fail and cost more in repair costs than vehicles made by their Japanese counterparts.

Car manufacturers from the Far East dominated the top 10 positions in the league table of vehicle reliability of cars aged three to eight years old.

The most impressive vehicle for reliability proved to be the Honda Jazz, with only eight per cent of its vehicles failing, with owners having to pay a modest annual garage bill of £215.21 on average.

Meanwhile the least reliable vehicle of the study was an 02-registered Range Rover, with over half of the cars surveyed going wrong over a 12-month period, hitting their owners hard in the pocket with average repair bills totalling £517.88.

Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director at Warranty Direct, agrees UK motorists simply want to purchase a vehicle that gives them the least hassle physically and financially.

He said: “Car buying is a tricky business, but all most people want is hassle-free motoring. While our study is the most comprehensive of its kind, we won’t see robust data on the very latest cars to be launched.

“We’ll have to wait around three years for that – nobody has a crystal ball to assess cars launched recently.”

In order to keep repair costs down, more UK motorists are purchasing used car parts to fit themselves or to take to their garage. This ensures drivers can avoid paying a premium for brand new parts, with used car parts from ASM Auto Recycling coming with an initial 90-day guarantee.

At ASM Auto Recycling we have a growing used car parts department stocking over 250,000 guaranteed recycled car parts for almost any vehicle, anywhere in the world – why not give us a try!
