Gang jailed for stealing luxury cars and stripping them for parts

A car gang spread across the Manchester, Blackburn and Leicester area has been caught red-handed stealing luxury Mercedes, Audi and Land Rovers vehicles to be stripped down for used car parts sold across the continent online.

A host of pictures have been distributed by the national press to demonstrate how luxury cars such as an Audi RS4 were taken down to their component parts and solid via eBay raising hundreds of thousands of pounds from unsuspecting buyers.

The men were eventually rumbled when a prospective buyer responded to an advertisement for ‘genuine Audi RS4 Recaro interior bucket seats’ available for purchase on eBay. The buyer visited the gang’s salvage centre in Manchester but became suspicious and tipped off the police who subsequently uncovered two other salvage car part operations in Leicester and Blackburn.

Det Con Ashley Matthias from Greater Manchester Police’s Organised Crime Unit, said: “This was a highly organised criminal enterprise headed by Arif Gorji and Shoayb Patel.

“It involved the theft and disposal of more than £600,000 worth of cars and the resale of their parts to innocent purchasers through eBay and other sale websites.

“It is a priority for police to combat organised crime, reduced burglary and tackle all theft related offences.”
