Honda Civic named ‘best economy car’ at Paris Motor Show 2012

  Monday, 8 October 2012

Drivers looking for an efficient, economic number for the road this year should consider the Honda Civic, according to the Women’s World Car of the Year committee.

A panel of 20 women judges from 11 countries nominated 300 cars for the award of best economy car at the Paris Motor Show 2012, with Honda’s Civic coming out on top.

Toshiaki Konaka, director of Honda Motor Europe Car Division, was on hand to receive the award from the judges on the Honda stand.

“This award highlights the unique exterior styling and practical interior that are synonymous with the Civic model and meet the needs and desires of customers within the C segment in Europe,” he said.

The Volkswagen UP and the Ford Fiesta came second and third in the economy category respectively; with the judges evaluating each nominated car against criteria women think about when buying a new car – including safety, value, appearance, ease of driving, storage space, carbon footprint and colour and child friendliness.

This exciting news for the Japanese-based manufacturer follows its latest news regarding new additions to the Civic line, including a 1.6-litre, i-DTEC engine, a wagon-style Civic model and a racy new Type-R – each of which are due for release on the European market.

An increasing number of motorists in the UK are taking the decision to scrap their cars for cash in the search for a more efficient, cost-effective family car. This award from women drivers across the continent is a clear indicator of what the future of motoring will look like.

Particularly with the fuel and insurance ‘war’ on British motorists showing little sign of abating it is vehicles such as the Civic, that receive critical economic acclaim, that will have a positive impact on the wider environment.
