DSA to implement changes to reporting of motorcycle incidents

  Tuesday, 3 May 2011

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is set to implement changes to improve the way motorcycle related incidents are reported and dealt with.

The changes are expected to be made from Monday 16th May and are expected to affect DSA staff processes and the responsibilities of current approved training bodies.

The revisions to DSA reporting procedures are designed to ensure the correct level of support is provided to motorcyclists involved in serious or major incidents. More stringent recording methods are designed to allow the DSA to make enhancements to procedures in the future.

The reporting will cover on and off-road motorcycle activities for testing and training. Reporting for off-road incidents includes:

  • Module 1 testing
  • ATB activities on a motorcycle manoeuvring area (MMA)
  • Compulsory basic training (CBT) activity at an ATB site
  • Direct access scheme (DAS) activity at an ATB site

Reporting for on-road incidents includes:

  • Module 2 testing
  • Any motorcycle incident involving a member of staff on DSA business
  • CBT training during element E
  • DAS training

Thousands of motor cycle vehicles are salvaged from accidents on Britain’s roads every single year. At ASM Auto Recycling alone we process over 15,000 cars and motorcycles with many refurbished and placed in our online salvage auction which attracts cars, vans and motorbikes every week.

Motorcycles beyond repair can also be dismantled in an environmentally friendly fashion with vehicle dismantling and scrap metal processing techniques adopted to de-pollute vehicles – recovering and recycling as much of the ferrous and non-ferrous metal content as possible.
