Auto Salvage Sales

Please note: this service has been replaced with our Online Salvage Auction.

Historically, ASM operated a vehicle salvage section, which featured its current stock of damaged repairable and stolen recovered vehicles.

ASM (Oxford) generally offered around 100 cars, vans and bikes for sale at any one time and its direct contracts with several major insurance companies ensured that ASM received a steady flow of fresh stock every day.

In recent times and with the rise in popularity of websites like eBay, ASM sought to join forces with salvage auctioneers across the country to offer online bidding of salvage vehicles.

The following points are useful to know when buying salvage vehicles from us:

Parts Discount

As a gesture of goodwill to our salvage buyers, ASM offers a discount of up to 20% on all used parts supplied for the repair of cars purchased from us.  (NB. This discount only applies to salvage vehicles purchased from ASM Auto Recycling Ltd!  It does not apply to vehicles being sold by any of the other companies on the online auction).

Delivery Service

If you are unable to arrange the collection of a salvage vehicle purchased from us, then we offer a very competitively priced delivery service (all delivery charges are plus vat).

Deliveries tend to take place early in the morning and are usually done on one of our 6-car transporters. So please ensure that all specified delivery addresses have sufficient access.

Salvage Jargon

In the damage column of the ‘Salvage Lists’ on this website you will come across several technical abbreviations, which are explained below:

    •  O/S = off-side (which means the driver's side of the vehicle)
    •  O/S/F = off-side front
    •  O/S/R = off-side rear

    •  N/S = near-side (which means the passenger's side of the vehicle)
    •  N/S/F = near-side front
    •  N/S/R = near-side rear

    •  NROV = the vehicle is not recorded on the HPI register

    •  U/S = un-serviceable (the part specified is no good)

    •  S/REC = stolen recovered

    •  F/S/H = full service history

Insurance Categories

Below is a list of the classifications by which insurance companies write-off vehicles.

Vehicles categorised as ‘A’ or ‘B’ have been so severely accident damaged that they are deemed unfit for repair by the insurers and must therefore be “crushed” to prevent them from being able to go back on the road.

We don’t sell cat ‘A’ or ‘B’ vehicles as repairable salvage - we only sell categories ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘X’ to our customers!!!

CAT ‘A’
A written-off vehicle that must be totally destroyed, including all of its parts.
CAT ‘B’
A written-off vehicle from which the spare parts may be re-sold, but from which the body-shell should be destroyed so that the vehicle cannot be returned to the road.
CAT ‘C’
A vehicle that is written-off by the insurers because the repair costs are greater than the value of the vehicle itself, but which can nonetheless still be potentially repaired to a roadworthy condition.
CAT ‘D’
A vehicle that has been written-off by the insurers, for various possible reasons, even though its physical repair costs are less than the vehicle’s actual value.
CAT ‘X’
A vehicle that is “not recorded” as being damaged on the HPI register, or which has very minimal damage only.  Generally speaking, these vehicles are “stolen-recovered” cases.

Safety Issues

The majority of cars displayed on this site have been damaged in some way or another and we therefore strongly recommend viewing of the vehicles prior to purchase.  Furthermore, all salvage vehicles are "sold as seen" and the photographic images provided on this site are for guidance purposes only.

We will provide a V5 Registration Document where available, but salvage vehicles will not be supplied with either an MOT Test Certificate or a Road Fund Licence - you must apply for these after repairs have been effected and the vehicle has been returned to a roadworthy condition.
